At 3:14 a.m., Dr. Thomas examines nine-year-old Leo, who arrives at the emergency room with severe facial swelling and bruises. His stepfather, Greg, insists that the injury is a spider bite and demands antibiotics because he does not want to miss work. However, the doctor notices that Greg is unusually impatient and controlling, while Leo behaves frightened and submissive. When Greg is moved away, the doctor discovers bruises and a mark around Leo’s wrist. During the examination, something strangely moves beneath Leo’s swollen skin. Greg immediately becomes nervous and tries to leave with Leo, increasing the doctor’s suspicion.
After Greg is stopped by security, Leo finally speaks privately with the doctor. He reveals that Greg put him inside a shed as punishment for being too loud. Leo explains that Greg opened a jar containing a strange creature and pressed it against his face while holding him down. The doctor realizes that Leo’s injury was not caused by a normal spider bite. He suspects that something living may have entered the child’s body. Leo begs the doctor not to let Greg take him home because he is afraid. Suddenly, something visibly moves beneath Leo’s skin, confirming that the situation is far more dangerous than expected.
