Raymond decides not to go on the Christmas trip to Telluride because he realizes that his son, Preston, has always treated him as a source of money. Soon afterward, Raymond discovers that Preston changed the hotel reservation, used the name of his deceased wife, Eleanor, and forged important documents. He then finds photographs of his house, documents prepared for its sale, and a mysterious note saying, “WAIT UNTIL JANUARY.” His lawyer, Julian, discovers that someone has planned to sell Raymond’s house and transfer his savings. Raymond realizes that the Christmas trip was only a distraction designed to keep him away from home.
Raymond returns home with Julian, and the police discover a hidden recording device. The investigation reveals that Preston and Marissa were involved in the financial scheme and the attempt to sell the house. Police also recover Eleanor’s jewelry from a storage unit connected to Preston. Raymond decides to establish firm boundaries and refuses to sacrifice everything for his son anymore. On Christmas Eve, he spends time with his granddaughter Emma, who reminds him of the true meaning of family and home. Raymond finally understands that love does not require unlimited sacrifice and begins to see his home as a place of safety, peace, and belonging.
