**Mexico has filed a lawsuit against Google** after the tech giant changed the name of the Gulf of Mexico to “Gulf of America” on its maps, following an executive order by **Donald Trump**. President **Claudia Sheinbaum** emphasized that the U.S. decree only applies to its continental shelf, not the entire gulf, calling the unilateral renaming an overreach. Google, however, refused to reverse the change, with VP **Cris Turner** defending the decision.
While the **U.S. House of Representatives** passed a bill to formalize the name change, it faces strong opposition in the Senate, where it’s unlikely to meet the **60-vote threshold**. The dispute highlights tensions over sovereignty and geographic naming conventions, with Mexico insisting the move violates international norms. The legal battle could set a precedent for how tech platforms handle politically charged map alterations.
