Colonel Emily Carter attends her sister Claire’s husband Andrew Hayes’s change-of-command ceremony, carrying a scorched piece of Specialist Miller’s dog tag. Three years earlier, Andrew had abandoned soldiers during combat, falsified records, and blamed Emily while her family dismissed her accusations as PTSD. During the ceremony, Andrew panics when he sees the dog tag. Claire humiliates Emily, while their father threatens to have her removed. Then the announcer reveals the incoming commander is Colonel Emily Carter. Shocked, her family watches Emily take command of the brigade. Andrew realizes his carefully constructed heroic reputation is collapsing before thousands of witnesses.
Immediately after Emily assumes command, a CID agent and military police officers arrest Andrew for dereliction of duty resulting in death, falsifying records, and conduct unbecoming an officer. His arrest exposes the truth behind the deaths of Miller, Davis, and Jenkins, while Claire and Emily’s parents are devastated. Emily refuses her father’s demand to protect Andrew, explaining that he betrayed soldiers and nearly destroyed her life to hide his crimes. Now responsible for the brigade, Emily keeps Miller’s scorched dog tag close to her heart and promises to rebuild trust. Although she loses her family, she finally possesses truth, honor, and command.
