My Wife Went To Help Our Son In Knoxville Then Stopped Answering After Four Days

Two months ago, Frank Callaway’s wife Maggie traveled to Knoxville to help their son Kevin and his wife Brittany settle into their new home. When Maggie suddenly stopped answering calls, Frank drove there and was warned by neighbor Earl Hutchins that she had collapsed days earlier. Frank found Maggie dangerously weak and barely conscious. At the hospital, doctors discovered high levels of benzodiazepines in her system, despite her having no prescription. Maggie revealed that Brittany had prepared chamomile tea every night, after which she became increasingly helpless. Frank and investigators soon discovered suspicious financial problems, including Kevin’s massive debts and Brittany’s questions about Maggie’s life insurance.

The investigation uncovered a horrifying plan. Brittany had secretly purchased alprazolam and repeatedly added it to Maggie’s tea, intending to incapacitate her and eventually collect her $400,000 life insurance policy. Kevin knew about the plan and helped conceal it, even preventing emergency responders from properly assisting his mother. Laboratory evidence, financial records, internet searches, security observations, and Earl’s testimony proved their guilt. Brittany was convicted of attempted first-degree murder, conspiracy, elder abuse, and criminal poisoning, receiving twenty-four years before parole consideration. Kevin cooperated with prosecutors and received eight years. Maggie survived, recovered gradually, and Frank and Maggie eventually rebuilt their peaceful life, honoring Earl by creating a scholarship in his name.
