With the help of her attorney and a local housing organization, she learns that the property could provide a safe home for a small family through a structured program with professional management, background checks, and formal agreements. Meanwhile, her parents finally admit the truth: they had become financially dependent on their daughter and grew afraid that she might eventually stop supporting them. Instead of appreciating her generosity, they began trying to secure their future by treating her property and money as if they were entitled to them. The narrator is especially shocked when her father reveals that Leah’s husband helped them obtain copies of her financial information so they could investigate how much money she had. Her parents claim they were afraid and thought she was hiding money or planning to abandon them, but she realizes that fear does not justify violating her privacy or controlling her life.
