Spring brings calm beauty to Maple Grove Lane, a peaceful Seattle suburb where Sarah Johnson lives with her husband Michael and their ten-year-old daughter, Emma. Their home appears warm and loving, but Sarah begins noticing subtle changes in Emma’s behavior. Once cheerful and energetic, Emma has recently been eating less, complaining of headaches, and seeming unusually tired. During breakfast, she barely touches her food and quietly asks about her father, who now leaves early and returns home late because of work. Although Sarah tries to reassure herself, an uneasy feeling grows that something is wrong beneath the surface.
After dropping Emma off at school, Sarah heads to St. Mary’s Hospital, where she has worked as a pediatric nurse for eight years. Accustomed to caring for seriously ill children, she never imagines that tragedy could reach her own family. While treating a young patient, she receives an urgent call from Madison Elementary School. The school nurse informs her that Emma has suddenly collapsed during class and needs immediate medical attention. Fear overwhelms Sarah as the shocking news shatters her sense of security. Without hesitation, she rushes out of the hospital, desperate to reach her daughter.
