JD Vance Blasts Democratic Claims on Shutdown
\nVice President JD Vance addressed what he called the left\u2019s \u201clies\u201d about the recent government shutdown during a press briefing on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
Breitbart News Washington Bureau Chief Matthew Boyle asked Vance to tackle two major claims circulating among Democrats.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019re seeing top Democratic leaders\u2014from Kamala Harris and Chuck Schumer to Hakeem Jeffries\u2014say this is a Republican shutdown caused by Trump,\u201d Boyle said. \u201cSecond, they claim they don\u2019t want to give healthcare to illegal aliens. Can you address both of these claims?\u201d<\/p>\n
Vance: This Is a Democrat Shutdown
\nVance argued the shutdown was clearly the Democrats\u2019 doing. He pointed to the House and Senate vote totals and President Trump\u2019s actions.<\/p>\n
\u201cNearly every House Republican voted to open the government,\u201d Vance said. \u201cAlmost every Senate Republican voted the same, and even a few moderate Democrats joined them. But nearly every Senate Democrat voted to keep it closed. That\u2019s not a Republican shutdown\u2014it\u2019s obviously a Democrat shutdown.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cYou can debate many issues, but you can\u2019t deny the obvious: Republicans voted to open the government. The President is ready to sign it. We just need a few more Democrats to join us.\u201d<\/p>\n
Democrats and Healthcare for Illegal Aliens
\nVance then addressed Democrats\u2019 claims about healthcare.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe legislative text is clear,\u201d he said. \u201cEven fact-checks, like George Stephanopoulos interviewing Mike Johnson, ignored reality and repeated Democrat propaganda. The Democrats included provisions to give healthcare benefits to illegal aliens.\u201d<\/p>\n
Vance explained, \u201cIf you\u2019ve been to a hospital recently, you\u2019ve likely noticed long wait times. Often, patients are illegal aliens who cannot speak English. That\u2019s because the Biden administration restored funding for healthcare for illegal immigrants, which the Trump administration had stopped.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cThe administration also granted asylum and legal status to millions in the country illegally. This gave them access to taxpayer-funded healthcare. Democrats now deny this, but the facts speak for themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n
Sleight of Hand
\nVance accused Democrats of sleight of hand: \u201c\u2018No, no, those weren\u2019t illegal aliens getting healthcare benefits,\u2019 they claim. But everyone knows they were here illegally. It\u2019s a lie, plain and simple. The Trump administration\u2019s stance is that government resources should benefit American citizens, not illegal immigrants.\u201d<\/p>\n
He concluded, \u201cDemocrats are willing to shut down the government to benefit illegal aliens. The contrast couldn\u2019t be clearer.\u201d<\/p>\n
