The paper called her remards \u201cunacceptable social media posts.\u201d The posts came in the wake of the killing of Kirk, the 31-year-old founder of\u00a0<strong>Turning Point USA.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>One of Attiah\u2019s posts on Bluesky read:\u00a0<em>\u201cPart of what keeps America so violent is the insistence that people perform care, empty goodness and absolution for white men who espouse hatred and violence.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-3\">\n<div id=\"weverydaystories.com_responsive_2\" data-google-query-id=\"\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/23207117756\/weverydaystories.com\/weverydaystories.com_responsive_2_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Another read:\u00a0<em>\u201c<strong>Refusing to tear my clothes and smear ashes on my face in performative mourning for a white man that espoused violence is\u2026 not the same as violence<\/strong>.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Karen Attiah (Instagram)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Washington Post accused her Bluesky posts of being<em>\u00a0\u201cunacceptable,\u201d \u201cgross misconduct,\u201d\u00a0<\/em>and of endangering the physical safety of colleagues.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-2\"><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Attiah\u2019s Response<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>In her Substack piece, Attiah forcefully rejected the charges.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThey rushed to fire me without even a conversation,\u201d<\/em>\u00a0she wrote.\u00a0<em>\u201cThis was not only a hasty overreach, but a violation of the very standards of journalistic fairness and rigor the Post claims to uphold.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>She said the reason for her firing was\u00a0<em>\u201cspeaking out against political violence, racial double standards, and America\u2019s apathy toward guns.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-5\"><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Context of Kirk\u2019s Murder<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Kirk, a high-profile conservative commentator, was fatally shot last week. She also noted that the country routinely shrugs off political violence. One of her widely shared posts read:\u00a0<em>\u201cFor everyone saying political violence has no place in this country\u2026 Remember two Democratic legislators were shot in Minnesota just this year. And America shrugged and moved on.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>She added that her comments were\u00a0<em>\u201cdescriptive, supported by data, and nothing new or false.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-6\"><\/div>\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Broader Debate<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>The firing marks the latest controversy for Attiah.
