\nJust after 6:00 p.m., Zaria and other children approached a culvert\u2014a tunnel-like structure that channels rainwater underground. Heavy water flow, likely worsened by recent rain, pulled her into the storm drainage system. Within moments, she disappeared, swept away by the powerful current.<\/p>\n
Emergency responders later confirmed that the water carried her roughly 100 yards through underground pipes before she could be rescued.<\/p>\n
