{"id":6994,"date":"2025-08-18T22:21:38","date_gmt":"2025-08-18T22:21:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/trendusa1.online\/?p=6994"},"modified":"2025-08-18T22:21:38","modified_gmt":"2025-08-18T22:21:38","slug":"it-is-with-great-sadness-that-we-announce-that-the-prince-has-passed-away-suddenly-tonight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/trendusa1.online\/?p=6994","title":{"rendered":"It is with great sadness that we announce that the prince has passed away suddenly tonight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Prince Michael of Greece and Denmark \u2013 Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh\u2019s first cousin \u2013 has died at the age of 85.<br \/>\nThe royal was pronounced dead at a hospital in the Greek capital of Athens, it was announced on Sunday.<br \/>\nHe will be buried in the capital on Thursday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"code-block code-block-9\">\n<div id=\"ternalnews.com_responsive_2\" data-google-query-id=\"CI2cjruylY8DFS2-JwIdXiUeGw\">\n<div id=\"google_ads_iframe_\/23201474937\/ternalnews.com\/ternalnews.com_responsive_2_0__container__\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Prince Michael was a renowned writer and historian under the name Michel De Gres and was the last remaining grandson of George<br \/>\nI, with a lineage to the House of Bourbon through his mother\u2019s side of the family.<br \/>\nThe royal was well known for his marriage to Marina Karella, for whom he renounced his right to the Greek throne to marry in 1965.<\/p>\n<p>He is survived by his wife and their two daughters, Princess Olga of Savoy-Aosta and Princess Alexandra of Greece.<br \/>\nPrince Michael was the only child of Prince Christopher and the royal\u2019s second wife, Princess Francoise d\u2019Oleans of France.<br \/>\nHis father died at just 51 in 1940 after suffering from a short illness before his mother died in 1953, leaving the royal an orphan by the time he was 14.<\/p>\n<p>He studied political science in Paris before repatriating to Greece for military duty, where he served a term in the Hellenic Coast Guard in order to regain Greek citizenship.<br \/>\nHe was the only member of the Greek royal family to remain in the country in 1967 when the government fell to a right-wing military coup after his nephew<br \/>\nKing Constantine failed in his attempts to overthrow the junta.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Prince Michael of Greece and Denmark \u2013 Prince Philip the Duke of Edinburgh\u2019s first cousin \u2013 has died at the age of 85.
