The symbolic gesture wasn\u2019t accidental\u2014it was a\u00a0<strong data-start=\"472\" data-end=\"488\">bold protest<\/strong>\u00a0by National Park Service (NPS) employees upset over job cuts under the Trump administration.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"588\" data-end=\"609\">A Flag in Distress<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"611\" data-end=\"873\">Under the\u00a0<strong data-start=\"621\" data-end=\"639\">U.S. Flag Code<\/strong>, flying the American flag upside down signals\u00a0<strong data-start=\"686\" data-end=\"757\">\u201cdire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0Park employees used that symbol to voice their frustration about what they see as an ongoing crisis within the NPS.<\/p>\n<h2 data-start=\"880\" data-end=\"916\">Job Cuts Trigger Employee Outrage<\/h2>\n<p data-start=\"918\" data-end=\"1109\">The Trump administration recently slashed\u00a0<strong data-start=\"960\" data-end=\"974\">1,000 jobs<\/strong>\u00a0from the National Park Service.
