The teenager was\u00a0left trapped under\u00a0the four-ton vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>Loren, conscious the entire time, watched as his right arm was crushed and the bottom half of his body was pinned down by the truck.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe id=\"instagram-embed-0\" class=\"instagram-media instagram-media-rendered\" src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CFIvrunlLJ7\/embed\/captioned\/?cr=1&amp;v=14&amp;wp=640&amp;rd=https%3A%2F%2Fen.newsner.com&amp;rp=%2Ffamily%2F19-year-old-crushed-by-forklift-chooses-to-amputate-bottom-half-of-his-body-to-save-his-life%2F%3Ffbclid%3DIwY2xjawKSAtBleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFzSkFQT1Nsdnp6S1YwVDJlAR6uT-68mktKKoE4O6SA8lwN5dQRP76zo#%7B%22ci%22%3A0%2C%22os%22%3A890.8999999761581%7D\" height=\"934\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-instgrm-payload-id=\"instagram-media-payload-0\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>As a result of his injuries, the 19-year-old was left with a heartbreaking decision: have the lower half of his body amputated, or face certain death.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to\u00a0RTL 4, he said: \u201cThe doctors gave me a choice. The question was, do you want to live or die? Do you want to live with the situation now or die with the life you had?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>His girlfriend, Sabia, said goodbye to Loren six times while he was in hospital. Doctors repeatedly told her he wouldn\u2019t live another day.<\/p>\n<p>And yet he somehow managed to pull through. The pair, who had been together for 18 months at the time of the accident, got engaged to each other in 2020.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-the-choice\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The choice<\/h2>\n<p>\u201dIt wasn\u2019t a hard choice to have half of my body amputated \u2013 it was basically a choice of living or dying,\u201d Loren explained.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dWith Sabia assuring to stay by my side no matter what and all my immediate family being around me, it really wasn\u2019t a hard choice for me!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As mentioned, his accident took place back in September, 2019, when Loren was forced to drive along the edge of a bridge to accommodate passing cars.<\/p>\n<p>The structure, however, crumbled beneath him, and though he tried to leap free of the truck, his leg got tangled in his seatbelt.<\/p>\n<p>The vehicle rolled three times before landing on top of him, causing extensive injuries. His health was teasing us, like \u2018haha we\u2019re fine now but going to die soon so you\u2019ll all be sad\u2019, but then he lived.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-the-road-to-recovery\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The road to recovery<\/h2>\n<p>Needless to say, Loren faced a recovery process of epic proportions. Despite it all, though, he retained his will to pull through, and defied doctors\u2019 expectations.<\/p>\n<div class=\"zfpdc6827d278d2471\">\n<div data-type=\"_mgwidget\" data-widget-id=\"1712269\" data-uid=\"0333c\">\n<div id=\"mgw1712269_0333c\">\n<div>\n<div class=\"mgbox\">\n<div class=\"mgheader\">\n<p>Initially, they had said he would be in hospital for at least 18 months, but he was out after three, including four weeks in rehab.<\/p>\n<p>Of his battles, Loren said: \u201cMy best advice to anyone going through something like this is that you can\u2019t focus on the things you can\u2019t have and you must live your life to the fullest with what you do have.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-instagram wp-block-embed-instagram\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\"><iframe id=\"instagram-embed-3\" class=\"instagram-media instagram-media-rendered\" src=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/B6oxK6FlJN2\/embed\/captioned\/?cr=1&amp;v=14&amp;wp=640&amp;rd=https%3A%2F%2Fen.newsner.com&amp;rp=%2Ffamily%2F19-year-old-crushed-by-forklift-chooses-to-amputate-bottom-half-of-his-body-to-save-his-life%2F%3Ffbclid%3DIwY2xjawKSAtBleHRuA2FlbQIxMABicmlkETFzSkFQT1Nsdnp6S1YwVDJlAR6uT-68mktKKoE4O6SA8lwN5dQRP76zo#%7B%22ci%22%3A3%2C%22os%22%3A1654.8999999761581%7D\" height=\"934\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\" data-instgrm-payload-id=\"instagram-media-payload-3\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<\/figure>\n<p>Despite the challenges he\u2019s faced, Loren hasn\u2019t allowed his condition to define him.<\/p>\n<p>Together with his Sabia, now his wife, they share their story on YouTube, where they\u2019ve garnered over 639,000 subscribers.<\/p>\n<p>In their videos, the couple has been transparent about their dreams for the future \u2014plans that include traveling and starting a family.<\/p>\n<p>In one of his latest video, Loren marked the five-year anniversary of the life-changing forklift accident, reflecting on how far he\u2019s come. He shared that while his pain is still present, it\u2019s become more manageable over time. Loren credited the rehab techniques taught by his doctors for helping to \u201cerase the phantom pain\u201d he had experienced over the years.<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cMy pain is definitely more under control now, my health is a little wild and out of control.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"h-the-question-everyone-keeps-asking\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">The question everyone keeps asking<\/h2>\n<p>As their YouTube channel has gained popularity, the couple has faced increasingly intrusive questions about their personal lives, especially after Loren\u2019s procedure\u2014questions even about their intimate life.<\/p>\n<p>Sabia addressed one such question, telling The Daily Star<em>,<\/em>\u00a0\u201dA question we get repeatedly is, \u2018How do we have s** and how do we become intimate?\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She firmly responded, \u201dThat is a very personal question that we are never going to answer or allude to, as it\u2019s very disrespectful. You wouldn\u2019t ask a random couple on the street how they have s** and just because our life circumstances are different, it doesn\u2019t give people the right to ask.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Loren, however, has been open about other personal questions, such as how he uses the bathroom. In a YouTube Q&amp;A, he explained:<\/p>\n<p>\u201dA colostomy, which is my colon pulled out of my body so I can poop. Are you happy, surprised, or disappointed by some of them?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Loren admitted he felt \u201da little disappointed\u201d by how some of his friends had reacted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201dA couple of friends came out of the woodworks and have been really supportive, [others] totally reverted and have been reclusive,\u201d he shared. \u201dBut it\u2019s whatever to me, you know, I got Sabia, that\u2019s all I need.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sabia agreed, saying, \u201cGoing through this together has definitely strengthened a lot of the aspects of our relationship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>What a truly inspirational young man.
