Texas GOP Rep. Brandon Gill has publicly called for the deportation of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), arguing that the U.S. would be better off without her.<\/p>\n
\u201cAmerica would be a better place if @IlhanMN were deported back to Somalia,\u201d Gill stated on the social media platform X.<\/p>\n
Gill\u2019s statement was accompanied by a video in which Omar appeared to instruct Somali immigrants\u2014some potentially undocumented\u2014on how to handle encounters with federal immigration officials. The video was initially shared by conservative commentator Greg Price, who claimed, \u201cIlhan Omar is now hosting workshops for Somalians living in the country illegally to advise them on how to avoid being deported.\u201d<\/p>\n
Many users on X supported Gill\u2019s stance.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s as anti-American as they come. She swore an oath to the United States but has consistently acted against it. She\u2019s a fraud, a liar, and a traitor to this country!\u201d one user wrote.<\/p>\n
Another user questioned the legality of Omar\u2019s actions, stating, \u201cIsn\u2019t this illegal? Expel her!\u201d<\/p>\n
A different commenter accused Omar of breaking federal laws, saying, \u201cShe is committing federal crimes by instructing illegal immigrants on how to evade ICE. She should be investigated and prosecuted.\u201d<\/p>\n
Following the backlash, Gill reinforced his position, writing, \u201cWe should have never let Ilhan Omar into our country.\u201d<\/p>\n
A spokesperson for Gill later elaborated on his position in a statement to\u00a0The Hill<\/em>. \u201cRepresentative Omar\u2019s actions raise serious concerns about her loyalties\u2014whether they lie with the American people or with undocumented Somali immigrants.
