My wife and I planned our 40th-anniversary trip for years. Our fantasy vacation to commemorate 40 years of love and relationship was just the two of us. But when Jane, our daughter, heard our plans, everything went wrong.<\/p>\n
I hired a charming Maine coast inn to have coffee on the veranda and watch the sunrise over the water with my wife, Maggie. A romantic holiday to recall our early marriage was great.<\/p>\n

The next day, I confronted my daughter. Sitting in our bedroom with brochures from our original trip, I contacted her.<\/p>\n

Do you hear yourself? Like you don\u2019t want to see your grandchildren!\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not that,\u201d I said, attempting to relax. The trip was supposed to be about your mom and me, not you or the kids. We\u2019ve anticipated it for years!\u201d<\/p>\n
She snapped, \u201cFine.\u201d \u201cCancel it! I\u2019ll tell Nick we\u2019re staying here while you and Mom go exploring.\u201d<\/p>\n
I remained silent. I knew my words would stoke the fire since Jane had gone too far.<\/p>\n
Instead, I decided\u2026<\/p>\n
Without alerting anyone, I called the airline and changed our tickets back to the original destination after concluding my talk with Jane, giving her the impression she won.<\/p>\n
I confessed to my wife the day before our flight. She looked shocked at me. You did what?!<\/p>\n
