His wife, Kate, confirmed the news in an emotional tribute, calling him her \u201csoul mate and hero.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sansum was best known for guarding Diana during her 1997 holiday in St. Tropez, just a month before her tragic death. Nicknamed \u201cRambo\u201d by Diana, Sansum built a close bond with the family and once received a heartfelt thank-you note from the princess for his protection.<\/p>\n<p>He had an extensive security career, working with celebrities like Tom Cruise and Sylvester Stallone, and served as a bodyguard to former Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond.
