Helped Spark an American Music Tradition Dead at 95

Bluegrass music has lost one of its most dedicated champions. Bill Clifton, born William August Marburg, has died peacefully at 95, leaving behind a remarkable legacy built on passion and perseverance. Forced to pursue his musical dreams under a secret stage name because his family opposed his ambitions, Clifton spent decades recording, performing, organizing festivals, and introducing traditional American music to audiences worldwide. His family remembered him as a man devoted to preserving beloved songs for future generations. Although his cause of death was not disclosed, his influence will live on through the music he worked tirelessly to protect.
